Weissenburg am Rhein struck these 12 Kreuzer pieces during the Kipper- und Wipperzeit, the catastrophic debasement crisis that swept the Holy Roman Empire in the early 1620s. Municipal authorities across the Empire scrambled to issue their own coinage as imperial monetary order collapsed, often with wildly inconsistent silver content.
