Spain's 12-euro denomination has no circulation function — it was created specifically as a collector vehicle, priced at face value through Spanish banks and post offices. The 2009 issue marked the 200th anniversary of the Peninsular War, the brutal guerrilla conflict against Napoleonic occupation that gave the English language the word "guerrilla" itself.
