| 裏面の説明 | Three-quarter facing portrait bust of Christopher Columbus occupying the left and lower portion of the field, with his name CRISTÓBAL COLÓN inscribed along the lower periphery. Behind the effigy, a stylised wireframe globe spans the field, evoking the Age of Discovery. To the upper right, a caravel under sail and a larger galleon are depicted within the quadrants of the globe design. The denomination 12 EURO appears prominently to the right of centre, with the commemorative dates 1506 2006 marking the five-hundredth anniversary of Columbus's death. The crowned Madrid mint mark (M) is visible to the upper left within the globe. A beaded border frames the entire composition. |

The €12 denomination was invented specifically for this series — introduced by Spain in 2002 as a collectible face value sitting neatly between the €10 and €20 bullion tiers, with no pretense of circulation use. The Columbus issues in particular were struck across multiple years to mark the anniversaries surrounding the 1492 voyage, with Banco de España releasing successive designs tied to the ships, the landfall, and the figures involved in the expedition's financing and command.
KM#1113 corresponds to the 2006 release, by which point the series had settled into a reliable annual format directed at the Spanish collector market and overseas buyers with a heritage interest.
