Obverse description Full-length frontal effigy of Maximilian, Archduke of Austria and Administrator of the Teutonic Order, standing in elaborate armor and robes, holding a scepter in his right hand and resting his left upon a sword. To the left, a lion supports a crowned heraldic shield; to the right, an ornate floral cartouche bearing additional armorial devices. The date 1614 appears in the lower exergue, framed by decorative foliate elements. The surrounding legend reads MAX D G AR AV D B MA PRVSS ADMI, distributed around the inner border of a beaded outer circle.

Reverse description Armored equestrian portrait of Maximilian in full gallop to the right, the Grand Master depicted in three-quarter armor with a baton raised. The horse and rider are surrounded on all sides by twelve heraldic shields bearing the arms of the territories of the Teutonic Order and associated lands, arranged in a continuous border around the field. The reverse bears no legend, with the composition entirely devoted to the heraldic and equestrian display. The fine hammered execution gives the high-relief surfaces a bold sculptural quality characteristic of early seventeenth-century Königsberg goldsmith work.
