Obverse description The obverse depicts Saint George in full armour, mounted on a richly caparisoned horse rearing to the right, thrusting a lance downward into a dragon prostrate beneath the horse's hooves. The composition is rendered in high relief with fine detail on the armour, horse trappings, and the writhing dragon. A floriate rosette separates the beginning and end of the French-language legend, which encircles the entire field and reads EN HONNEUR DU SOUVERAIN DU TRES NOBLE ORDRE DE LA IARTIERE, commemorating the Sovereign of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.
