| Additional information |
Liberia has issued commemorative coinage under its own authority since the 1970s, but its modern bullion and themed series are produced entirely for the collector export market — no piece in this program has ever circulated domestically. The $12 face value is a recurring denomination in Liberian commemorative issues, chosen specifically because it bears no relation to any real transactional currency in the country, keeping the legal tender fiction intact without interfering with the CFA-adjacent economy.
