Liberia has been a prolific issuer of novelty and themed bullion since the 1990s, frequently licensing designs through European minting houses — primarily the Bavarian State Mint and B.H. Mayer's — for coins that circulate almost exclusively in the collectibles market rather than through any Liberian financial institution. This piece falls squarely in that tradition. At 0.031 g, the gold content is negligible even by micro-gold standards; the actual Liberian legal tender status of such issues has never been tested in any domestic transaction.
