Beschrijving voorzijde The national coat of arms of Liberia dominates the central field, depicting a shield bearing a sailing ship at sea, a dove in flight, a palm tree, and rays of a rising sun, all above a scroll bearing the national motto. The date 2008 is divided across the lower field, with '20' to the left and '08' to the right of the arms. The circular legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs along the upper rim, while a secondary inner legend reads 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' around the shield, and the denomination '12 DOLLARS' appears along the lower rim.

Beschrijving keerzijde A traditional Dutch windmill is depicted in fine relief at the center of the field, rendered with careful structural detail showing its rotating sails, tower body, and base. The inscription 'NETHERLANDS' arcs in bold block lettering along the upper portion of the coin, following the curve of the rim. The field is otherwise unadorned, allowing the windmill motif to serve as the sole decorative element symbolic of the Netherlands.

Aanvullende informatie

The Central Bank of Liberia issued a prolific series of small-format gold pieces in the 2000s, many denominated in U.S. dollars — a reflection of Liberia's long-standing use of the U.S. dollar as its de facto transactional currency alongside the Liberian dollar. The $12 face value is essentially arbitrary, calibrated to bullion content rather than any purchasing-power logic.

The Netherlands tie places this within a collector series rather than any commemorative monetary event. Pieces from this Liberian run were struck by private mints on contract and were never intended for circulation.
