Obverse description The coin is struck in the silhouette form of the iconic Mauser C96 semi-automatic pistol, rendered entirely in polished .9999 fine gold. The obverse field carries the legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA along the upper register, with the fineness designation AU 9999 and the date 2026 prominently displayed in the central field. The fractional weight indicator 1/1000 OZ appears below the upper legend, and the denomination 12 DOLLARS is inscribed vertically along the grip area of the pistol form. The entire coin surface adopts the contoured silhouette of the firearm, including the characteristic long barrel, box magazine housing, and grip extension.

Reverse description The reverse presents the plain, unadorned gold surface of the Mauser C96 pistol-shaped coin, mirroring the silhouette of the obverse without additional inscription or design elements. The smooth, polished field reflects the characteristic outline of the pistol, including the extended barrel, distinctive box magazine housing, trigger guard, and ribbed grip. The plain reverse surface contrasts with the inscribed obverse, emphasizing the sculptural novelty format of this miniature gold piece. A small suspension loop is integrated at the base of the grip, consistent with collector medallion presentation.

Additional information

Liberia has issued commemorative coinage under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, producing small-format gold pieces themed around weapons, vehicles, and military equipment for the collector market rather than any domestic monetary purpose. The C96 — designed by Fidel Feederle and manufactured by Mauser from 1896 — was the first locked-breech semi-automatic pistol to achieve widespread military and commercial adoption, chambered in its proprietary 7.63×25mm cartridge.

At 0.031g, this is among the smallest gold coins commercially produced anywhere.
