附加信息

The National Bank of Liberia has issued novelty-denomination gold pieces for decades, exploiting the country's sovereign minting rights to produce collector-targeted items with no relationship to domestic monetary circulation. The $12 face value is legally valid but economically meaningless — a device to satisfy the technical definition of legal tender while selling to firearms enthusiasts and bullion collectors abroad.

At 0.031 g of .9999 gold, this is among the smallest gold coins produced anywhere. The M1911 pistol entered U.S. service following the Moro Rebellion in the Philippines, where .38 caliber revolvers proved inadequate stopping power — a procurement crisis that directly drove John Browning's contract with Colt.
