| Additional information |
Niue has issued collector silver under its own authority since the 1990s, leveraging a currency arrangement with New Zealand that permits the island — population under 2,000 — to produce legal tender denominations entirely disconnected from domestic commercial use. The $12 face value is arbitrary by design, chosen to distinguish the piece from standard crown-sized issues without implying any transactional intent.
Charles III's accession in September 2022 triggered an immediate wave of numismatic retooling across Commonwealth and associated jurisdictions. Niue's issues bearing his effigy began appearing in 2023–2024 as licensing agreements with the Royal Mint and portrait approval processes were completed.
