附加信息

Haiti's early republican coinage was produced under conditions of near-constant financial stress, with the young state still absorbing the economic wreckage of both the revolutionary war and the 1804 indemnity negotiations with France. The Western Republic designation reflects the political division of the island: Henri Christophe held the north as a kingdom, while Alexandre Pétion governed the southern and western regions as a republic until his death in 1818.

The "small bust" variety distinction on KM#14 points to die work done under extremely limited mint infrastructure — Port-au-Prince lacked the equipment of European facilities, and minor punch variations between issues were an inevitable byproduct of hand-prepared dies.
