Additional information

Haiti's early republican coinage was minted under President Jean-Pierre Boyer, whose administration unified the island after absorbing the former Spanish colony of Santo Domingo in 1822. The 12 centimes denomination was peculiar to this short series — a fraction dictated by the colonial gourde's subdivision rather than any rational decimal scheme — and was abandoned after just a few years of production.
