Obverse description Central raised disk bearing a radiate sun with twelve pointed rays emanating symmetrically from a central boss, all contained within a plain raised border. The design is rendered in low relief characteristic of Central Italian aes grave coinage of the early third century BC. The rays are evenly spaced and taper toward their tips, giving the motif a strong solar character. The irregular flan edges and cast surface texture are typical of the heavy aes grave series produced at Iguvium (modern Gubbio, Umbria).
