Heavy cast bronzes of this type — produced by unnamed Central Italian communities during the height of Rome's consolidation of the peninsula — present persistent attribution problems that have occupied scholars since Haeberlin's foundational 1910 study. The issuing authority remains disputed; the "uncertain city" designation reflects genuine disagreement, not cataloging laziness. At 163 grams for a half unit, the parent as would have weighed in excess of 320 grams, placing this squarely within the heaviest phase of the aes grave tradition before systematic weight reductions began eroding the libral standard through the course of the Third and Second Samnite Wars.
