Temnos was a minor Aeolian city on the Hermos River in western Asia Minor, politically overshadowed for most of this period by the competing ambitions of Pergamon and the Seleucid kingdom. Its autonomous bronze coinage — of which this is a representative example — reflects a window of civic independence that effectively closed when Roman reorganization of the region following 133 BC absorbed the area into the province of Asia. The SNG Copenhagen reference range suggests this piece belongs to a loosely grouped series rather than a precisely attributed emission.
