Beschrijving voorzijde Bare head of youthful Dionysos facing left, rendered in low relief in the Hellenistic style. The god's features are softly modelled with characteristic curling hair, befitting his association with viticulture and festivity. The flan is irregular and somewhat worn, typical of small bronze civic coinage of the period. No legend is present in the field.

Aanvullende informatie

Peparethos — the Aegean island now called Skopelos — was among the more prosperous of the northern Sporades during the Hellenistic period, its economy built substantially on wine exports that were traded across the eastern Mediterranean. These small bronzes circulated locally and likely served harbor and market transactions rather than inter-regional exchange. The island came under increasing Roman influence following the settlement of Greek affairs after Pydna in 168 BC, which brackets the likely peak of this issue's production.
