| Obverse description | Forepart of a lioness rendered in profile, facing left, depicted in a stylized Archaic manner characteristic of Milesian coinage of the late 6th to early 5th century BC. The feline figure is shown with forepaws extended and head turned to face the viewer frontally, with pronounced pellet eyes and a boldly modeled muzzle. The design is executed in high relief against a plain field, with the irregular flan lending the composition an organic, naturalistic quality. The type follows the established iconographic tradition of Miletos, where the lion or lioness served as the principal civic emblem. |
