Obverse description Forepart of a roaring lion advancing to the right in high relief, the open jaws and serrated teeth rendered with notable archaic vigor. The mane is indicated by incised striations along the neck and chest. The design is set within a beaded border encircling the flan, characteristic of early Peloponnesian coinage of the Late Archaic period.

Reverse description A Corinthian helmet presented in left-facing profile, depicted in high relief with the characteristic cheek guards and nose-guard clearly articulated. The helmet is set within a shallow recessed incuse square, a hallmark of early Greek hammered coinage technique. The plain field surrounding the helmet within the incuse square emphasizes the bold, sculptural quality of the design.
