Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King Charles IV of Spain facing right, occupying the upper portion of the field above the crenated center hole. A large circular crenated (scalloped) hole of 15 lobes has been cut through the center of the host coin, removing the lower portion of the royal effigy. The peripheral legend reads CAROLUS·IIII·DEI·GRATIA, with the date 1797 appearing in the lower exergual area below the crenation. The milled edge of the host 8 Reales coin is fully intact.
