Alexandreia Troas — not to be confused with Alexandria in Egypt — was refounded and renamed by Antigonus I Monophthalmus around 310 BC through the synoikism of several smaller Troad settlements, including Kebren, Skepsis, and Kolonai. This coin dates to the final months before Antigonus was killed at the Battle of Ipsus in 301 BC, the four-way clash that dismembered his empire and left the city's political future abruptly uncertain. Control passed eventually to Lysimachus.
