Reverse description Central nine-line Latin funerary inscription recording the birth and death dates of Duke Ernest I, surrounded by nineteen small heraldic shields of arms arranged in a circle around the perimeter, with a larger crowned shield of the ducal arms of Saxony positioned prominently at the top. The inscription details the duke's titles, birth date of 25 December 1601, death date of 26 March 1675, his 35-year reign, age of 73 years and three months, and his interment on 4 June 1675. The overall composition reflects the elaborate funerary commemorative coinage tradition of the German principalities in the Baroque period.
