Elaia was a small Aeolian port city on the coast of Mysia, positioned at the mouth of the Caicus River — a geographic advantage that made it the principal harbor for Pergamon long before the Attalid dynasty transformed that inland city into a major power. This bronze issue predates that relationship, placing it in a period when Elaia functioned as an independent polis of modest but genuine regional standing.
The SNG Copenhagen and Munich references anchor this type firmly within a well-documented series, though the survival rate for Aeolian bronzes of this size remains low outside major institutional collections.
