At left, the Angel Gabriel stands in flowing robes, raising one hand in salutation and holding a lily stem — a symbol of purity — while at right the Virgin Mary kneels beneath a canopied baldachin, her hands raised in a gesture of acceptance. Between the figures, a flowering plant rises from a vase in the lower field, and rays of divine light descend from above, where a dove representing the Holy Spirit hovers amid a sunburst.
