背面描述 Elaborate multi-quartered coat of arms of the Hohenzollern Margraviate of Brandenburg, surmounted by a crowned imperial eagle displayed and flanked by ornate Renaissance mantling with two crested helmets above. The finely engraved escutcheon incorporates numerous heraldic quarterings representing the various territories and dignities of the Margrave, including the Hohenzollern scepter on the central inescutcheon. The circumferential Latin legend reads ROM IMP ARC CAM ET ELEC, proclaiming the Margrave's role as Arch-Chamberlain of the Holy Roman Empire and Elector.

附加信息

John George served as Elector of Brandenburg from 1571 until his death in 1598, presiding over a territory still navigating the confessional fault lines of post-Reformation Germany. The 1½ Thaler denomination was an awkward but practical denomination occasionally struck by German princes of this period, intended less for everyday commerce than for gift-giving and diplomatic exchange — Schautaler in function if not in name.

The Davenport reference A8959 places this among the scarcer multiple-thaler issues of the Brandenburg series. Bahrenfeld 507 confirms it as a documented variety, though surviving examples appear infrequently at auction.
