Reverse description Elaborate achievement of arms of the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, comprising a large quartered shield displaying the multiple heraldic quarterings of the duchy, surmounted by a complex array of crested helms and crowned with a wildman atop the uppermost crest. Two wildman supporters flank the shield on either side, each depicted holding a tree trunk. The composition is richly ornate in the German baroque manner, with scrollwork and mantling surrounding the central arms. The date 1618 appears in the upper portion of the field, and a Latin legend reading DEO ET PATRIAE runs around the beaded border.
