Obverse description The Portuguese royal coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring the traditional quartered escutcheon with the five quinas and the castles of the border, surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is flanked by decorative supporters and the overall design is rendered in a crude, low-relief hammered style characteristic of colonial Goa mint coinage of the early nineteenth century. No surrounding legend is present on this face.

Reverse description The denomination is boldly struck in the center of the field in two lines reading '1½' above 'Reis', in large crude Latin characters. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with the primitive hammered production techniques employed at the Goa mint during the reign of João VI. The field is otherwise plain with no additional legends or devices.
