Obverse description Incuse rectangular countermark containing a bold capital letter 'H', approximately 5mm in height, applied to the obverse field of the host coin. The underlying host coin displays the crowned arms of France within a cartouche, surrounded by the circular legend 'LOUIS XVI R. DI...' and '...ET DE NAV.' — a standard legend for French colonial coinage of the Ancien Régime period. The countermark is sharply struck and dominates the central field, partially obscuring the host coin's original design.
