Mahmud Begada died in 1511 after a reign of more than fifty years — one of the longest in Gujarat's history — leaving the sultanate to his son Shams ud-Din Muzaffar II, whose own reign was marked by persistent factional instability among the nobility. The fractional copper denominations issued under Muzaffar II were struck in relatively modest quantities compared to the prolific output of his father's mint, making even routine denominational pieces from this reign scarcer than their type suggests.
