| Obverse description | The obverse field is entirely occupied by a multi-line Arabic inscription in bold Naskh script, reading 'Nasir al-Dunya wa'l-Din' (Helper of the World and the Faith), a royal epithet of Sultan Mahmud I of Gujarat. The legend is struck in high relief across the irregular flan, with the characters arranged in two principal lines divided by a horizontal rule. The die-engraving is robust and characteristic of the hammered copper coinage of the Gujarat Sultanate, with the surface showing the typical green and brown patination of medieval Indian copper issues. |
