Reverse description Reverse displays a multi-line Arabic inscription centrally placed within the field, giving mint and regnal information consistent with Gujarat Sultanate falus coinage of the mid-fifteenth century. The lettering is broadly struck with a relatively flat relief, showing the rough, hand-hammered character typical of base-metal issues of this period and region. Peripheral legends are partially legible around the edge of the irregular flan. The field between the inscription lines is plain.

Additional information

Ghiyath al-Din Muhammad II ruled the Gujarat Sultanate for only eight years before his death in 1451, a reign short enough that his copper coinage remains significantly scarcer than issues of his father Ahmad Shah or his successor Qutb al-Din Ahmad Shah II. The fractional falus denominations are particularly underrepresented in collections outside the Indian subcontinent, most surviving examples having been excavated from bazaar and port-town sites along the Gujarati coast rather than recovered from hoards.
