Lithuania's 1½ euro denomination exists entirely outside the eurozone's standard coinage framework — it carries no legal tender status within the euro system and was issued purely as a collector piece. The Lithuanian Mint has used this unconventional face value repeatedly since the mid-2010s, effectively exploiting the denomination's novelty as a sales mechanism. The 2020 "Hope" issue appeared during the COVID-19 pandemic, a timing that was clearly deliberate.
