The circular Latin legend surrounds the field, with a secondary inscription in the lower exergual area reading PAX AQVISC. SANCITA / AN.LIB.IVR.MDCCXLVIII, commemorating the Peace of Aix-la-Chapelle. The deeply sculpted high-relief design is characteristic of the mid-eighteenth-century medallic engraving style of Martin Holtzhey. |
