Syangela was a small Carian city on the Halicarnassus peninsula, politically subordinate for much of its history to larger neighbors — first the Hecatomnid dynasts, then Macedonian successors. This tiny bronze was likely produced during the window of relative autonomy the city enjoyed in the early Hellenistic period, after Alexander's campaigns disrupted the old satrapal order but before Antigonid and later Ptolemaic pressure consolidated regional control.
