Additional information

Birendra's coronation on February 24, 1975 — delayed nearly three years after his father Mahendra's death in 1972 while astrologically auspicious dates were calculated — was among the most elaborately staged royal events in Nepali history, attended by dignitaries from across Asia and Europe. This commemorative was struck in 1974 in anticipation of that ceremony, part of a multi-denomination gold series issued through the Nepal Rastra Bank.

The .999 fineness is notably purer than most contemporary sovereign gold issues, which typically ran at .900.
