Obverse description Central field bears the national coat of arms of Equatorial Guinea, featuring a shield charged with a silk-cotton tree (ceiba), flanked by two crossed tusks and surmounted by an arc of six five-pointed stars. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto UNIDAD PAZ JUSTICIA. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE GUINEA ECUATORIAL runs along the upper periphery, with the denomination 10.000 BIPKWELE inscribed along the lower periphery. The date mark '80' appears to the left and the fineness indicator '0.917' to the right of the arms, within a beaded border.

The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail on the collar and epaulettes. The commemorative legend S. M. DON JUAN CARLOS I VISITA GUINEA arcs around the upper portion of the coin, while the date · DICIEMBRE 1979 · is inscribed along the lower periphery. The design is enclosed within a beaded border, commemorating the royal state visit to Equatorial Guinea in December 1979.
