The Hospital Center coin was part of Poland's larger commemorative program run through the 1980s, a period when the communist government used numismatic exports as a hard currency earner — coins sold abroad through Pewex and foreign dealers while domestic circulation remained starved of silver. Trial strikes from this program exist in multiple compositional and finish variants, which explains the paired KM proof numbers here; Pr522 and Pr544 likely reflect successive submission strikes tested before the final issue specification was approved.
The .750 silver alloy is notably lower than the .925 used in earlier NBP commemoratives, a cost adjustment that became standard after 1982.
