| Vorderseitenbeschreibung | The obverse is printed in brown and orange tones, with a central guilloche rosette enclosing the denomination vignette in Chinese characters. To the left, an industrial factory complex with smoking chimneys is rendered in fine intaglio line work; to the right, a farmer ploughing a field with two draft animals completes a paired composition of industry and agriculture. The issuer's name and denomination appear at top and bottom in Chinese characters, with the date at the lower margin. |

| Rückseitenbeschreibung | The reverse is printed in a uniform brown tone and centres on a large intaglio vignette of an ocean-going steamship moored at a quay, with a smaller sailing vessel visible in the background. The composition is framed by elaborate guilloche borders and ornamental corner devices. The denomination numerals "1000" appear at left and right, with the issuer's name in Chinese characters at the top and the year "1949" below the central vignette. |

This note belongs to the First Series of Renminbi, issued under extraordinarily difficult conditions as the People's Liberation Army swept south and the new government struggled to establish monetary unity across territories captured at different rates. The People's Bank of China had been formally established only in December 1948, and the early notes of this series were produced across multiple printing locations with varying paper stocks and plate quality — consistency was not achievable, and was not the priority.
P#850 is known to exist with distinct printing variations, a direct consequence of decentralized wartime production. Collectors should treat specimens from different sources as potentially distinct in paper texture and ink saturation, not merely in grade.
