By early 1949, the Nationalist government's monetary system was in terminal collapse. The Gold Yuan reform of 1948 had already failed catastrophically, and notes like this 1000 Yuan issue were being printed and spent faster than they could move through the economy. The Central Printing Factory was operating under severe resource and logistical constraints as Communist forces advanced, which affected output consistency across the series.
Pick 412 belongs to the final convulsive phase of Republican currency — printed in enormous quantities, circulated briefly, and rendered worthless within months. High face values that would have seemed extraordinary just years earlier were routine by this point.
