Obverse description A circular vignette at left centre contains an intaglio scene of a horse-drawn plough at work in a field, framed by a fine guilloche border. The denomination 壹仟圓 is set in large characters to the right, flanked by corner panels bearing the character 仟壹. The issuing bank name 中國人民銀行 runs along the upper margin, with two red seal impressions at lower right and the printer's imprint along the lower border.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a finely engraved oval vignette of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, set against a clouded sky and rendered with detailed architectural precision. The vignette is surrounded by elaborate guilloche scrollwork and floral ornamental panels, with the denomination panels 壹仟圓 repeated in the upper left and right corners. The numeral 1000 appears in the lower centre beneath the central vignette.
