Obverse description Central field features a full-color photographic depiction of the Hiji Otaki (Hiji Great Falls) waterfall set amid lush subtropical forest, with a colorized Okinawa Rail (Gallirallus okinawae) — an endangered endemic bird — prominently displayed in the foreground, facing left, rendered in naturalistic detail with its distinctive red beak, red legs, and barred plumage. The legend 日本国 (State of Japan) is inscribed at the upper field in Chinese characters, flanked left and right respectively. The denomination 千円 (1000 Yen) appears in the lower right field. A curved banner along the bottom bears the park name in both Latin script — 'Yambaru National Park' — and hiragana 'やんばる国立公園'.
