Obverse description The obverse features a colorized reproduction of Scene 3 from Yadorigi (Chapter 49) of the celebrated 'Picture Scroll of the Tale of Genji,' rendered in the classical Yamato-e painting style. The composition depicts aristocratic figures in elaborate Heian-period court dress within an architectural interior, with delicate polychrome coloring applied over a fine engraved ground. Surrounding the central pictorial panel are the inscriptions identifying the issuing state and denomination. The legends 日本国 (State of Japan) and 京都府 / KYOTO appear alongside the denomination 千円 in the field.
