Obverse description Central field features a full-color depiction of the historic Tomioka Silk Mill, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, rendered in vivid polychrome with its distinctive red-brick facade and arched gateway prominently displayed. To the right of the building stands a female mill worker dressed in traditional blue kimono attire, shown in three-quarter view facing left. The legend 日本国 (Japan) appears in relief across the upper field, while 群馬県 and GUNMA are inscribed in the lower central field. The denomination 千円 (1000 Yen) is engraved in two characters flanking the lower portion of the design, set against a mirrored proof field.
