Beschrijving voorzijde	Central vignette bears a portrait of Yi Hwang (Yi Toegye), the eminent Joseon-dynasty Neo-Confucian scholar, rendered in fine intaglio. To the right of the portrait appears a vignette of Myeongnyundang, the principal lecture hall of Sungkyunkwan, the royal Confucian academy of the Joseon Dynasty. The denomination and issuer inscription are set within a structured guilloche underprint in blue and green tones.

Opmerkingen	P#54 replaced the previous 1000 Won design that had been in continuous circulation since 1983 — a remarkably long run for a workhorse denomination. The 2007 redesign was part of a broader modernization push by the Bank of Korea that also updated the 5000 and 10000 Won notes, standardizing production entirely under the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation rather than relying on foreign printers as earlier series had. Cotton substrate, security thread, and watermark — the security package is modest relative to higher denominations in the same series, which received additional features like color-shifting ink.
