Obverse description Central vignette presents a portrait of Yi Hwang (1501–1570), the eminent Joseon Dynasty Confucian scholar known by his pen name Toegye, rendered in intaglio against a fine guilloche underprint. Inscriptions in Hangul appear above and to the right of the portrait, identifying the issuing authority and denomination. A single raised coloured tactile dot for the visually impaired is positioned at the lower left of the note.
