| Obverse description | Central field features the state emblem of Mongolia — the Soyombo symbol — set within an ornate arch-topped cartouche, flanked on either side by Traditional Mongolian script characters. Below the cartouche, the issuer's name appears in stylised script lettering reading 'Mongol Bank'. The denomination '1000 ТӨГРӨГ' is inscribed in bold relief in the lower central field, with the legend 'MONGOLIA 0.5g .9999 GOLD' engraved along the lower rim. The coin's broad border is adorned with a continuous reeded or sawtooth pattern encircling the entire design. |

Mongolia's Year of the Ox issues are part of a long-running lunar series produced for the international bullion and collector market rather than domestic circulation. At half a gram of .9999 fine gold, these were struck at the Mayer & Wilhelm Minting facility in Stuttgart under contract — a common arrangement for smaller central banks without their own precious metal minting infrastructure.
