Fabergé died in 1920 — penniless, in exile in Lausanne — having fled Russia two years earlier as the Bolsheviks nationalized his firm and seized its assets. The centenary of his death prompted a wave of commemorative issues from issuers with no particular connection to the man, Mongolia included.
