Part of Mongolia's ongoing lunar series, this issue corresponds to the Ox year in the twelve-year cycle — 2021 falling on the Year of the Metal Ox, which in traditional Mongolian and broader East Asian reckoning carries associations with stubbornness and endurance that made "Mighty" a commercially obvious adjective. The Bank of Mongolia has leaned heavily into the international bullion and collector market since the early 2000s, issuing themed silver rounds under nominal tögrög denominations that never meaningfully circulate.
