Mongolia's large-format silver issues from this period were produced primarily for the international collector market, with the Bank of Mongolia contracting European mints — most frequently the Münze Österreich and B.H. Mayer's — to strike pieces that would never see domestic circulation. The 1000 Tögrög denomination sits well above any practical transactional value inside Mongolia, where the tugrik's purchasing power made such a face value largely nominal.
