| 表面の説明 | The national emblem of Mongolia is centrally depicted, featuring the soyombo symbol set within a circular floral wreath, with mountains, the sun and moon, and two horses flanking a rider in the traditional style. The legend MONGOLIA arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script, while the denomination 1000 appears in the lower field in large numerals. Traditional Mongolian script inscriptions appear to the right, identifying the nation and the denomination. The milled border frames the entire design with a fine toothed rim. |

Mongolia experienced a total solar eclipse on March 9, 1997, visible across a narrow corridor of its territory — one of the few instances where a nation issued a commemorative coin for an astronomical event that was directly and locally observable at the time of issue. The Bank of Mongolia moved quickly enough that the coin reached collectors before the eclipse itself had faded from public memory.
